Mercedes-Benz S-Class recalled for issue in firewall seal.
Only the diesel-powered sedans manufactured on 23 April 2020 have been called back.
Firewall seal might not meet the minimum tightness requirements and could fail under heavy water exposure.
Failure could cause the water to enter the cabin and short circuit the electricals.
Not the first recall for the S-Class this year, it was also recalled in February.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury limousine has been recalled for a potential issue in its firewall seal, which if fails, can cause multiple repercussions. Only the diesel variants manufactured on 23 April 2020 have received the call back and here’s a detailed report on the issue.
The firewall seal of the vehicle, which is essentially the part of the body that separates the engine bay from the cabin, may not meet the tightness requirements. As a result, exposure to large quantities of water might lead to the water entering the cabin and short circuiting the abounding electrical components inside. This can in turn cause the PreSafe functionality to malfunction. This can be a big threat under an incident, considering the feature is an important passive safety feature, which tightens the seat belts or closes the windows and sunroof in the case of a rollover.
In the worst case scenario, the water can cause so much damage that the parked vehicle may not be able to restart. But through this recall, Mercedes will make sure that the firewall is sealed and meets the leak tightness requirements.

This isn’t the first recall for the S-Class this year, as another call back was issued back in February for a possible airbag control unit mounting issue. These recalls aside, the S-Class is an extremely opulent and capable luxury sedan and you can see how it fares against the flagship GLS SUV from its own company.
Prices for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class start from Rs 1.71 crore and it goes up against other flagship offerings like the Audi A8L and BMW 7 Series.
