The latest generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has just made its global debut and has already been added to the brand’s India lineup. The aero-focussed 992-generation 911 track toy starts at Rs 3.24 crore (ex-showroom).
The 992-gen 911 GT3 RS was spied numerous times testing at the Nurburgring, and Porsche found a way to put that ridiculous fixed rear wing on the final road-legal model. It is a two-part design with the upper section being an active element for the DRS function, just like in Formula 1. There are clever aerodynamic elements at the front as well and have undergone some massive changes over the normal 911 GT3.
Porsche has replaced the three-radiator layout with a larger central radiator in the nose, as used in the 911 RSR and the new 911 GT3 R. This allows for more active aero elements in the front bumper. The large vents in the hood, for dissipating hot air from the radiator, result in the loss of the 911 frunk. At 285kpmh, the aero-package of the 992 911 GT3 RS produces 860kg of downforce. That’s twice as much downforce as the previous-gen GT3 RS.
Other notable exterior design elements on the 911 GT3 RS include the small fins on the rear half of the roof, the side blades behind the front and rear wheel arches, louvres on the front wheel arches, and the more aggressive rear diffuser. For the first time, the GT3 RS has carbon fibre doors in order to follow the shape of the front end, without interrupting the ventilation behind the front wheels. The 911 GT3 RS has a wider track, thanks to the much wider wheels.
Tune your suspension on-the-go
Given that Porsche GT buyers are the types to chase faster lap times, the GT3 RS has an adjustable setup for its track-focussed suspension. But now, they can adjust the rebound and compression of the front and rear suspension from the driver’s seat using new dials on the steering wheel of the 992 911 GT3 RS.
The German performance marque has tuned the suspension to be stiffer to keep the car as level as possible in every driving scenario. The default settings for the suspension and differential are the recommended setup from Porsche, and owners can always rest them to standard before finding their exact setup for each track. The 911 GT3 RS also gets rear-wheel steering.
The rotary dials on the steering wheel can also be used to adjust the rear differential. It has the same gauge cluster as the 911 GT3 but with RS-specific graphics and two digital displays flanking the analogue tachometer in the centre.
Small bump in engine performance
The powerplant of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is based on the same naturally-aspirated 4-litre straight-six as the GT3. However, it has been optimised further with specialist components to take the peak output up to 525PS, up by 15PS. The engine is mated to a seven-speed PDK with gear ratios shorter than in the GT3.
It also gets improved braking performance with optional carbon ceramics. As standard, it features lightweight forged alloys wearing sticky rubber tyres measuring 275/35 R 20 up front and 335/30 R 21 at the rear.
Customers can opt for the Clubsport package on the new 911 GT3 RS for no extra cost. Meanwhile, the Weissach package will help reduce the weight even further with a Porsche-first carbon fibre roll cage, carbon ceramic brakes, magnesium wheels and specialist paddle shifters.
Why no ‘Ring time?
It has become norm for Porsche to unveil a new GT product with a notarised lap time at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. However, environmental factors (the heat) have stopped Porsche from setting an optimal lap time with the production-spec 911 GT3 RS. The brand has promised that it will be making a timed attempt before the end of the year. We expect it to set a time faster than the stock 991.2 911 GT2 RS.

Rivals
The all-new 911 GT3 RS is a rival to the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan STO. It does not have the power output to tackle the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the current record holder at the ‘ring for a factory-spec road car.
