The refreshed Jawa 42 has been launched and is priced from Rs 1,72,942 - Rs 1,98,142 (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the starting price has dropped by about Rs 16,000, the Jawa 42 has gained a revised engine for improved performance, the suspension has been tweaked to make the ride more comfortable, some new features, and more.
You can find out more in our Jawa 42 launch story. If you are not convinced, here are 4 bikes, and one e-scooter, that you can buy for a similar price:
KTM 200 Duke is one of the best 200cc naked bikes in India, and especially at the price it comes.
It’s powered by a 199.5cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 25PS and 19.3Nm. It also gets features like LED lights, switchable ABS, LCD cluster, adjustable rear suspension and more. The 200 Duke is an absolute banger for the buck. It has sharp handling, impressive performance, and aggressive looks. It’s a bike you can’t really go wrong with.
The Yamaha R15 is one of the best entry-level sport bikes in India.
The Yamaha R15 is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 18.4PS and 14.2Nm. In a segment-first, the R15 gets a variable valve actuation for better performance. It also gets a slipper clutch, and in the R15M, you get a quickshifter for upshifts and traction control. The R15 is one of the, if not the, best beginner sport bikes in India. It’s even quite popular amongst well-experienced riders for its easy and forgiving nature.
The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is the cheapest 400cc bike in India.
the automobile community
It gets a 373cc liquid-cooled engine that produces 40PS and 35Nm. Even with its relatively low price, Bajaj hasn’t skimped on its features – LED lights, inverted fork, riding modes, traction control, ABS modes, smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation, and more. All which make it quite worth its price if you want a powerful bike without breaking the bank.
The Royal Enfield Bullet 350 is a bike you can’t go wrong with if you want a proper retro-styled thumper.
It gets the J-series 350cc air-cooled engine and is humble on the features. Though what it lacks in offering, it more than makes up for with its absolute retro charm and ease of riding. The Bullet also gets a rear disc brake on some variants, and with the official accessory catalogue, you can personalise it to your tastes. But all-in-all, you buy a Bullet for its iconic looks and the quintessential Bullet experience.
The Ather 450 Apex might be an odd-ball in this list, but there’s nothing quite like it out there.
If you are looking for a sporty electric scooter south of Rs 2 lakh, you need to check out the Ather 450 Apex. It has a 7kW motor that’s hooked up to a 3.7kWh battery pack. While it has a claimed range of 157km, it can accelerate from 0-40kmph in 2.9s (claimed), making it one of the fastest e-scooters in India. It gets a chunky feature suite consisting of riding modes, LED lighting, 7-inch TFT touchscreen with smartphone connectivity and full-fledged Google Maps, and more.
