New ADAS tech for off-road teased by Jeep.
Will enable autonomous driving even when going off-road.
Two electrified Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models are the testing prototypes.
More information to be divulged in the coming days.
We’re all rather familiar with autonomous driving by now. It was first made part of the routine in global markets predominantly by Tesla, and then various levels of the tech started making their way into vehicles that we drive today, like the Mahindra XUV700, Honda City or the MG Astor. But if you’d notice, all that tech works best on well paved and marked routes, as it uses lane markings and various road signs to function properly.
But what if you also want the benefits of autonomous technology in places where there are no roads? Looks like Jeep might have a solution for that, with its new advanced AI and autonomous tech that will take you to and around an off-road trail without you having to interfere.
The carmaker teased this technology in a video as a part of its team headed to Moab, Utah, starting in two electrified Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models. In terms of visual changes, you can see a couple of cameras on the horizontal roof rail, which are likely there to scan the terrain ahead in addition to the standard radar which is housed within the front nose. On the inside, the infotainment system is partially covered via a huge screen, which is there for the engineers to monitor the data and movements of the vehicle. You can watch the Cherokee take on trails without a human at the helm in this video below:
Adventures are intimidating, all the more when there is no set road to follow. But fears should be tamed and that’s what this new tech will allow people without much experience in off-roading to take the road not taken.

As suggested by the video, the technology is currently under development and we should hear more from Jeep in the coming days. In its current India lineup, the Grand Cherokee is the only car that gets an ADAS suite which includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane-keep assist.

And of course, we are really looking forward to this technology being implemented, especially on the super capable Wrangler. Imagine doing away with any human input, which effectively takes out any human mistakes in the process, from an off-road experience in a vehicle like the Wrangler. No ditch, no obstacle, and no hill will stop AI from helping you march on! But would you like autonomy to take over while off-roading or would you like doing it on your own? Let us know in the comments.
