We recently rode the Triumph Speed 400 and found it to be quite an impressive bike. And if you felt so too, and were contemplating booking it, we have some not-so-good news for you: the booking amount for the Speed 400 is now Rs 10,000, five times the previous Rs 2,000 amount. Why though, you may ask?
Well, you see the brand has received more than 10,000 bookings for the Speed 400 already. And while it’s a good thing, it appears Triumph now wants the bookings to slow down just a bit so that the deliveries can be streamlined. Jawa and Yezdi faced a similar bottleneck during the deliveries of its bikes, and Triumph could be looking to not make the same mistake.
Triumph currently has a manufacturing capacity of about 5,000 units at the new Chakan 2.0 plant that Bajaj has set up in Pune. With the production likely to gain full steam in the coming few months, Triumph is looking to service the first 10,000 bookings it received in a timely manner. And given that it will just be delivering the bikes from 15 dealerships, the bikemaker doesn’t necessarily want to stockpile unnecessary inventory that cannot be doled out. Hence, as the touchpoints grow, 100 expected by March 2024, the delivery timelines are expected to be equally smooth.
This seems to be a thoughtful move by Triumph as we have seen certain nostalgic players enter the market and failed to live up to the hype. With Bajaj being the master of sales and marketing, we can hope that the end user doesn’t leave with a dissatisfied taste once his/her steed arrives.
So is this increase bad news for prospective Speed 400 owners? Not really. You see, the extra money you pay right now will eventually be deducted from the on-road price. If you’re curious about its on-road price, head here. Those looking for something more rough-road friendly, meanwhile, should wait for the Scrambler 400 X, which will debut in India in October this year. Talking about the Scrambler 400 X, could Triumph’s new 400cc platform also spawn an ADV, maybe a Tiger 400? Check that out here.
