The production-ready Citroen Basalt SUV-coupe has been revealed ahead of its launch in early August. It has been making multiple appearances without any camouflage and the design seems to be largely similar to the concept. So before Citroen launches the Basalt in India, let’s take a closer look at its styling:
We already knew what to expect from the Citroen Basalt, thanks to the Vision concept and the myriad of spy shots. The newly revealed production-spec model seems to be largely similar to the concept.
Citroen, for some reason, hasn’t shared the front shot of the production-ready Basalt, but you can expect it to be identical to the yellow concept that debuted earlier. So a split headlight setup with LED projectors (confirmed) and DRLs, generous use of chrome, squarish grille inserts and lots of muscle will make up the Basalt’s nose. It looks similar to the C3 and C3 Aircross, but with a tad bit more ruggedness.
The side profile is no stranger to muscle as well, thanks to chunky wheel arches and contours on the side sill. The wheels, while they have the same rim design, are now smaller and finished in dual-tone. The sloping roofline is the standout here, ofcourse, which flows seamlessly into the tailgate. The colour clip at the end of the window line adds a nice contrasting touch to the profile.
The rear too is similar to the concept with its wraparound LED tail lamps and the skid plate at the rear, which is actually functional and not just for show (as per Citroen). Its proportions look wide and the Basalt is surely to stand out from the conventionally styled SUVs in its segment.
As for its interior, we’ll have to wait a tad longer as Citroen didn’t reveal any proper photos. But they did give a glimpse of it in one of their teaser videos, which revealed that the Citroen Basalt’s dashboard layout that will be similar to the C3 and C3 Aircross. The large floating touch screen will take centre stage, but you can expect a different cabin theme to be offered.
The Basalt is expected to pack more features than the C3 and C3 Aircross. So it should get the usual 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, keyless entry and power windows alongside new equipment like automatic climate control, cruise control and a wireless phone charger.

Six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a parking camera, electronic stability control and hill start assist should make up its safety kit.
The Basalt is expected to get the 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which could be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Additionally, the lower-spec variants could also get the 82 PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol.
The Citroen Basalt could be priced from around the Rs 10 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
It’ll be the only SUV-coupe alongside the Tata Curvv to rival the stalwarts of the compact SUV segment, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara and Skoda Kushaq.
