The 992-generation Porsche 911 is a very very likeable car. It calls out to different people, serving different tastes and purposes, from being a daily driver to a road-legal track car. Then there are the track-only iterations, but there’s none like this one – the new 911 GT3 R Rennsport - a 911 GT3 R based track car that benefits from ditching any sort of motorsport regulation compliance.
What you get is a track weapon like no other 911, with a bespoke carbon fibre bodywork, reworked interior, and an even more powerful racing engine. Even though it is based on the 911 GT3 R, it only borrows its bonnet and roof, while the rest of the car is entirely unique.
The revised front nose gets larger air intakes, the wheel arches have been redesigned and the conventional ORVMs have been replaced by a digital one housed in the bespoke wheel arch. And if things weren’t already rather intense, the intensity gets dialled up to 11 at the rear.
The massive spoiler is reminiscent of the Brumos Porsche 935/77, and looks big enough to replace a small dining table. Underneath it is an illuminated light bar along with the lit up Porsche wordmark that defines the wider rear section. The dual exhaust tips sit just above the large open apron, which offers an unobstructed view of the exhaust system.

As you’d expect from a race car of this pedigree, the cabin of the 911 GT3 R Rennsport is stripped down to the bare bones. It is strictly a single seater, thanks to a rather rigid roll cage design. The use of carbon fibre is plenty and the cabin gets monitors for the fender-mounted exterior cameras. There’s also ambient lighting present, and the overall safety is compliant with the applicable FIA standards.
The 911 GT3 R Rennsport goes beyond any motorsport restrictions, and as a result, the 4.2-litre six-cylinder boxer engine of the 911 GT3 has been reworked to produce 620PS and can rev up to 9400 rpm! It can even run on E25 fuel, including bio-ethanol fuels and so-called reFuel. It is driven by the rear wheels only, which are rotated by a six-speed constant-mesh gearbox, actuated by the pedals behind the steering wheel.
The chassis and its components are nearly identical to the 911 GT3 R as they share the double wishbone suspension at the front, the multi-link suspension at the rear, and five-way adjustable racing shock absorbers from KW. It sits on bespoke Michelin racing tyres along with massive aluminium racing brakes for serious speed shedding duties.
With just 77 units headed for production, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport is a car that is made for the present, but is well on its way to becoming a classic of the future. This is what a collector’s dream is made of!
