Suzuki has stepped into the world of performance scooters with the Avenis. We have tested the Japanese scooter extensively, and in isolation, the Avenis is a good scooter. But with the TVS NTorq 125 Race XP in the picture, does the Suzuki still hold up? Let’s find out by comparing the performance data of these sporty scooters:
Acceleration
Suzuki Avenis | TVS NTorq 125 Race XP
0-40kmph | 3.38s | 3.68s (Race) 4.31s (Street) |
0-60kmph | 7.82s | 7.63s (Race) 9.38s (Street) |
0-80kmph | 14.20s | 14.19s (Race) 18.44s (Street) |
20-50kmph | 4.13s | 3.88s (Race) 4.52s (Street) |
The TVS NTorq 125 Race XP is the most powerful 125cc scooter on sale in India and sports the most sophisticated engine in the segment. However, the frugal 2-valve engine of the Suzuki Avenis gives a tough competition to the NTorq.
This is down to the fact that the Avenis is a good 10kg lighter than the TVS scooter. So, it is quicker off the line. However, post 60kmph, the NTorq’s 3-valve engine continues to surge, while the Avenis feels slightly slower.
Even in our roll-on acceleration tests, the NTorq outran the Suzuki. Here, not only does the NTorq’s power delivery comes as an advantage, but also its shorter throttle action.
Braking
Suzuki Avenis | TVS NTorq 125 Race XP
60-0kmph | 21.59m | 18.36m |
Now, both scooters feature similar braking hardware -- a disc up front and a drum unit at the rear, backed by the safety net of the combined braking system. The NTorq beats the Avenis in our braking test as well, despite the former's 10kg extra heft.
Fuel Efficiency
Suzuki Avenis | TVS NTorq 125 Race XP
City | 52.04kmpl | 54.33kmpl |
Highway | 56.21kmpl | 55.8kmpl |
Thanks to the ‘Street’ mode, the TVS NTorq returns more mileage in the city than the Avenis. And while the latter has marginally better fuel economy on the highway, its smaller tank compared to the NTorq means that its range on a full tank is lesser than the NTorq.
So, while the Suzuki Avenis does come close to the NTorq 125 Race XP, it doesn't have the TVS scooter beat in performance. But if you are looking for more than just performance figures, here’s our detailed comparison test of both scooters.
