KTM recently launched the top-spec 390 Adventure, at an ex-showroom price of Rs 3.6 lakh. Granted, it gets the same rip-roaring engine and features set as the standard model, along with spoke wheels, tubed Continental TKC 70 tyres, and adjustable suspension. But if that’s still not up your alley, here’s our pick of two-wheelers you could go for instead.
Kawasaki Ninja 300
Rs 3.40 lakh
The Ninja 300 has been Kawasaki’s entry-level faired offering for close to a decade, and though it faces stiff competition from the TVS Apache RR 310 and KTM RC 390, its trademark Japanese refinement and the linear power delivery from its twin-cylinder engine is still enough to bring a smile on your face. That said, its dated looks and barebones feature list will make you craving for more. All in all, if you’re looking for a refined, sporty, faired tourer, the Ninja 300 makes a good case for itself.
Royal Enfield Continental GT Mr Clean
Rs 3.45 lakh
Royal Enfield’s cafe racer has been winning hearts since its inception in 2018, with its period-correct looks and torquey twin-cylinder mill. It looks quite ravishing in this chrome Mr Clean avatar. Nevertheless, the Continental GT 650 can also be had in the Slipstream Blue and Apex Grey colourways which offer a blacked-out look and alloy wheels. The ergonomics is slightly on the sportier side, but still manageable enough to be comfortable for everyday commutes as well as the weekend ghat rides. If you’re looking for a retro-tastic cafe racer with performance and usability to boot, look no further.
Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Celestial Red
Rs 3.85 lakh
Royal Enfield’s flagship cruiser, the Super Meteor 650, shares the powertrain from its 650cc siblings, with identical specs. Granted, its heavier kerb weight may cut down a bit on the performance stakes. But it more than makes up with the sweeping design and comfortable ergos. And being the only 650cc offering with the Tripper navigation pod, you’ll never lose the way on the longest of tours.
QJ SRK 400
Rs 3.59 lakh
Aimed squarely at the KTM 390 Duke, the QJ Motor SRK 400’s sharp looks evoke a love-it-or-hate-it feeling. That said, it’s perfect for those looking for a relatively relaxed riding experience, capable performance, and big bike-like exhaust note.
Keeway Sixties 300i
Rs 3.30 lakh
The only scooter on the list, the Keeway Sixties 300i, isn’t an obvious choice due to its lack of features, and only passable convenience on offer. But it’s a worthy choice for those looking for a perennial dose of nostalgia along with steady performance that could put some motorcycles to shame.
Honourable Mention : Ultraviolette F77 Base Variant
Rs 3.8 lakh
The Ultraviolette F77 is admittedly a niche product. However, it’s a testament to the future of what electric mobility can achieve, while also being a wake-up call to those who think electric two-wheelers have derivative designs, and unexciting performance.
