TVS has announced an investment in Ion Mobility, a Singaporean electric two-wheeler startup. The investment is said to benefit both brands in expanding their footprint in Southeast Asian electric mobility.
With this investment, Ion Mobility will receive ecosystem support from TVS to cater to the electric markets of Indonesia and Singapore. For TVS, this investment means the expansion of its product portfolio, particularly in the premium electric segment, and global presence in the two-wheeler markets.
TVS will also be helping Ion Mobility in the final production of the Mobius M1-S e-scooter along with support in design and development of new models which are likely to be premium EVs.
The Ion Mobius M1-S is a sporty maxi-style scooter powered by a 5.5kWh battery pack and a 12.5kW electric motor producing 43Nm torque. With a cool design and impressive performance figures, the e-scooter comes loaded with a tonne of features.
While Ion Mobility is unlikely to come to India, we can expect TVS to take inspiration from the brand to come up with its own premium maxi-style electric scooter in the future. At the moment, we have the TVS iQube Electric and its rivals – Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, Bajaj Chetak, Simple One and Hero Vida V1 – to take care of the electric two-wheeler market here in India.
