After what felt like an eternity, KTM finally launched the 2022 iteration of the RC 390 in India last month. This new Austrian supersport received major aesthetic and functional updates. In fact, no other bike in KTM’s 10 year history in India received as big an update as this new RC 390. So, let’s take a closer look at all these updates through our exclusive photo gallery:
The 2022 KTM RC 390 features a new aerodynamic bodywork that looks completely different from the outgoing model.
The old twin-projector setup has now been replaced by all LED headlight, tail light and indicators. The bike also features DRLs and turn indicators integrated in the fascia.
The bike is now equipped with a whole range of electronics like Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), Quickshifter, lean-angle sensitive ABS with Supermoto mode, and a TFT display that has bluetooth connectivity.
The new RC 390 features a new split trellis frame unlike the single frame from the previous generation. Underpinnings include an open cartridge WP APEX upside-down front forks (non-adjustable in the India-spec version) and a WP APEX rear shock absorber, which offers preload adjustment.
KTM has now also equipped the RC 390 with two-way 10mm height adjustable clip-on bars, and has also stated that they have improved the ergonomics of the bike, especially in the knee area to allow for more fluid rider movement.
Powered by the same 373cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine developing 43.5PS and 37Nm, the updated bike gets a 40% bigger airbox, with a new exhaust which claims to help improve torque delivery. The new RC 390 also gets revised engine mapping. The power and torque figures remain the same as the outgoing model, and so does the slipper clutch.
The new RC 390 also features an all-new wheel design, hollow front axle and new ByBre braking system which reduces unsprung weight over the previous generation by 0.8 kg.
New seats for the pillion and rider, coupled with grab rails are also what’s new on this bike. The older bike in comparison did not have a dedicated grab rail.
The new RC 390 is now available in MotoGP inspired paint schemes, namely KTM Factory Racing Blue and KTM Orange.
The 2022 RC 390 is now priced at Rs 3,13,922, ex-showroom Delhi, and takes on the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and TVS Apache RR 310. It is priced Rs 36,287 higher than the older bike.
