Kia has unveiled the Alcazar-based Carens, its fourth offering for the Indian market. Unlike the Creta/Alcazar, the Carens gets its own dashboard that’s different from the Seltos. But it must be mentioned that the car was locked at the unveiling event, so we can’t comment on its space. But without further ado, let’s explore the Carens’ interior in our in-depth 10 images gallery.
The Carens’ dual-tone dashboard layout is quite straightforward, with all controls seemingly positioned at the right places. But what does the trick here is the usage of materials, which gives the dashboard a premium appeal. The gloss-black plastic on the width of the dash, the silver touches on the dashboard and lower central console as well as the beige finish blend in perfectly.
A 10.25-inch infotainment is placed in the dashboard (rather than a floating unit) and seems flush with the expanse of gloss black plastic. It gets touch-based controls for important functions and knobs for the volume and tuner. Most of the climate control functions can be accessed via touch inputs, with toggles retained only for the fan speed and temperature.

The wireless charging pad is placed in a recess, and is flanked by controls for the ventilated front seats, parking camera, and hill descent control. Then there’s the gear lever, which has been lifted from the Sonet and Seltos.
Another element that has been lifted from the Carens’ siblings is the steering wheel. Behind is the digitised driver’s display, whose layout and functionality is similar to the i20. In our opinion, this doesn’t cut it right as the Alcazar gets a full fledged 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with top notch graphics. Check it out in our first drive review.
The Carens seems to be a practical offering as there are plenty of cup holders. For instance, there are two cup holders behind the gear lever while Kia claims you can place three bottles in the door pads. There is a pop out cup holder on top of the left passenger vent so you can keep your drink nice and cool. USB chargers are also present in all rows.
The people-mover will be offered either as a 6-seater with captain seats or a 7-seater with bench seats for middle row occupants. The former also comes with an electronic tumble function, which is a first in its segment, and airplane style tray tables are on offer on both variants. But Kia could have given it ventilation functionality in the second row, which is available in the Tata Safari Gold Edition.
That said, rear-seat occupants wouldn’t be complaining on a sultry day as the Carens gets rear sunshades, roof-mounted AC vents with a dedicated blower speed adjustment and air purifier. While it ensures quicker cooling and cleaner air, it comes at a cost: no panoramic sunroof. Yes, the Carens only gets a single-pane sunroof.
Kia has prioritized seating for third-row occupants as well. We can’t comment on the legroom and boot space just yet as the display cars at the unveil event were locked. The dimensions are also yet to be determined.
The Carens will be a safe offering from the safety features point of view as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, rear disc brakes, hill hold/descent control, and tyre pressure monitoring system are offered as standard. The Kia Carens will go on sale in early-2022, and prices are expected to start from around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). This puts it in contention with the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700.
