Just after launching the TVS Jupiter 125, the Hosur-based bike maker has dropped another bombshell of a news: the launch of the 2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V range. The updated iteration is the first in its segment to get riding modes. Here’s everything you need to know:
What's The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
The 2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V starts from Rs 1,15,265 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant with a disc brake up front and drum at the rear. The 2022 model goes up against the Yamaha FZ-S Fi, Honda XBlade, Suzuki Gixxer, Hero Xtreme 160R, and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160.

The standard version of the 2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V comes in three variants. Take a look at their ex-showroom, Delhi pricing and their comparison with the 2021 model:

The Special Edition variant comes with an exclusive matte black colour scheme with red alloy wheels, smartphone connectivity (called the TVS SmartXonnect), adjustable brake and clutch levers, and a new seat cover with printed logo. All these are in addition to whatever the other variants get. More about them in the following paragraph.
What's New?
The biggest update has been made to the engine. All the variants of the 2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V now come with three riding modes: Sport, Urban, and Rain. Here’s the table with the output figures and their comparison with its predecessor:

As you can see, there’s a slight drop in power in the 2022 model. However, TVS has balanced it out with the segment-first riding modes. This should also help newbie riders gain greater confidence while riding the motorcycle. The engine is mated to the same 5-speed transmission as before.
Apart from the riding modes, all the variants feature a gear position indicator, revised LED headlamp with LED DRL. The new headlamp can function in both low and high beams simultaneously. Except for the base variant, the others get a rear radial tyre. Radial rubber has a stronger sidewall than a conventional tyre, and that should help in improving the cornering confidence.
The top-end variant and the Special Edition model come with TVS SmartXonnect, which is TVS’ smartphone connectivity module. This allows the rider to use turn-by-turn navigation.
What’s Unchanged?
The rest of the underpinnings and body panels have remained unchanged. The bike continues to use a telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, 270mm petal disc up front, and 130mm rear drum/200mm petal disc at the rear, with single-channel ABS as standard.
