2023 Kia Carens With RDE-compliant Powertrains And 1.5-litre Turbo-petrol Engine Launched

• 2023 Kia Carens with RDE-compliant powertrains launched at Rs 10.45 lakh. 
• Prices have been hiked by up to Rs 50,000.
• The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine has been replaced by a 1.5-litre unit.
• 1.5-litre diesel and naturally aspirated petrol engines continue to be offered.
• The manual box in the diesel and turbo-petrol engines have been replaced with a six-speed iMT (clutchless manual).
• Digitised driver’s display from higher-end variants now standard. 

Kia India has launched the updated 2023 Carens, which now meets the more stringent RDE norms that are set to kick in from April onwards. Its 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines have been upgraded to meet the new emission standards, but the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine has been ditched for a slightly larger and more powerful 1.5-litre unit. Also, the manual ‘box has been deleted with the diesel and turbo-petrol engines in lieu of the six-speed iMT (clutchless manual). 

Like before, the Carens is offered in five broad trims: Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. Take a look at the revised prices of the MPV:

Carens Turbo-petrol 

• Prices for the Carens’s turbo-petrol variants have been hiked by up to Rs 50,000. 

• The Carens’s turbo-petrol variants get the biggest change: its 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine has been swapped for a larger and more powerful 160PS 1.5-litre T-GDI unit. 

• Also, the manual gearbox has been swapped for a six-speed iMT (clutchless manual). It’ll be sold alongside the seven-speed DCT option. 

Carens Diesel 

• Save for the Luxury Plus seven-seater trim that’s pricier by up to Rs 45,000, the Carens diesel is now dearer by up to Rs 50,000. 

• Its 1.5-litre diesel engine now puts out 1PS more than before at 116PS. 

• Even here, the six-speed manual has been replaced with a clutchless manual ‘box. It’s offered alongside the six-speed torque converter. 

Carens NA Petrol 

• Prices of the Carens’s naturally aspirated petrol engine have been increased by Rs 25,000. 

• This engine is the only option in the Carens that gets a six-speed manual ‘box. 

Other Changes Made To Carens 

• All three powertrains meet RDE norms and can run on E20 fuel (with 20 percent ethanol blend). 

• The MPV now gets its digitised driver’s display from the higher-end trims as standard. 

• The Carens MPV locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo, while being an affordable alternative to the Toyota Innova Crysta.
