It looks sharp, aggressive and every bit ready to take on the Ather 450X and the Ola S1 Pro

Endless teasers later, TVS has finally pulled the wraps off its new sporty electric scooter, the X. And our first impressions are that it looks sporty and aggressive, a big departure from the iQube. In fact, its silhouette is quite similar to the Creon concept and we’re only happy about it, for the Creon was quite a looker!

Here’s all you need to know about it:

  • 7kW motor (11kW peak power) | It's cooled by a RAM air intake at the front
  • 0-40kmph in 2.6 seconds | 0-60kmph in 4.5 seconds

  • 105kmph top speed

  • Three riding modes - Xealth, Xtride and Xonic

  • ABS (THANK GOD!!) Makes it India’s first electric scooter with ABS

  • 3.8kWh battery pack & 140km IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range

  • 0-50 percent in 1 hour with the 3kW charger

  • 0-80 percent in 3 hours 40 minutes with the regular charger

  • 12-inch wheels | 220mm (F) and 195mm (R) disc brakes

  • 100/80 - 12 (F) & 110/80 - 12 (R) wheels & tyres
  • NavPro navigation

  • Smart Xhield (Alerts for crashes, overspeeding, theft alert, geofencing, etc)

  • 19-litre underseat storage space

  • Solid 175mm ground clearance and approachable 770mm seat height

In terms of features, the X boasts of a massive 10.25-inch tablet of a TFT console, something that’s absolutely unheard of among scooters in India. Heck, we’ve never seen anything like this on any superbike too! The console’s customisable options are through the roof, for you can change the wallpaper and customise the location and order of the icons inside it. The console packs wellness, gaming, live video streaming, cruise control and a lot more, all of which are things we’re seeing for the first time ever on a two-wheeler.

All of this comes at a cost though. At Rs 2,49,990 (ex-showroom), the TVS X is India's most expensive electric scooter. Heck, it's dearer than the recently-launched impressive bikes like the Triumph Speed 400 and the Harley-Davidson X440! Plus the fact that it's not eligible for FAME 2 subsidies doesn't help its case too.

These things said, the X looks like something that India has never seen before. It's packed to the brim with features and looks like nothing else on the market. We expect it to go that way too. So we’re quite excited to get our hands on the X and see how it all adds up in the real world, and more importantly, see how it stacks up against the two giants: Ather 450X and the Ola S1 Pro.

If you're one who's not fazed by the price, head straight to TVS' website, because bookings for the X have begun for Rs 5,000. In fact, if you're lucky enough to be in the first 2,000, you'll get a customised package (consisting of specialised services for you and a Garmin smart watch) for Rs 18,000. Deliveries, meanwhile, will begin in a phased manner from December.
