Among the many features Ola Electric was going to offer on the S1 Pro, cruise control was one of the highlights. And while we couldn’t try it on our first ride, we were told that the feature would be available to customers at the time of delivery, which too doesn’t seem to have taken place. This brings us to Hero Electric, who will offer cruise control on its Optima HX e-scooter.
Launched at Rs 55,850 (ex-showroom, including FAME II subsidy), the Optima HX is an updated version of the already popular Optima e-scooter. The price tag is extremely attractive and online bookings for the same are said to commence from January 5. Will Ola manage to unlock the feature via an OTA update prior to the delivery of the Optima HX or will Hero Electric beat them to the punch remains to be seen.
Besides cruise control, the Optima HX remains more or less unchanged from its former self. Its removable 51.2V, 30Ah lithium-ion battery pack is good enough to go 82km on a single charge, and it has a top speed of just 42kmph. There’s also a dual-battery pack variant that costs Rs 65,640 (ex-showroom Delhi, including FAME II subsidy) and offers a claimed range of 122km, and hopefully, that too gets cruise control.
Ultimately, cruise control remains a gimmicky feature on a scooter such as the Optima HX as it doesn’t have the performance capabilities to reach and, thereafter, really sustain decent speeds.
