On the occasion of International Jawa Day, Classic Legends released two special colour editions of the standard Jawa motorcycle. The Khaki and Midnight Grey colours are said to honour the heroes of the 1971 war. Both colours arrive bearing a sticker price of Rs 1,93,357 (ex-showroom, Delhi), making them Rs 6,000 dearer than the traditional maroon shade.
Not only does the extra moolah get you these colours but also a few special bits such as the Indian Army’s insignia, the Indian tricolour running across the length of the tank and blacked-out mechanicals. Further updates include the same set of features that first arrived on the Jawa 42 2.1: revised seat pan, a new firmer suspension tune, a deeper exhaust note and a trip meter. These features will now be standard going ahead on all Jawa motorcycles.
What will also be common amongst the 293cc Jawa bikes is the engine tune. It will belt out 27.33PS and 27.02Nm, 0.82PS and 0.03Nm more than the previous BS6 tune. Jawa has managed to gain this extra output from cross porting and a repositioned lambda sensor. It has made the engine a bit more versatile, lending it better all-round rideability. You can check out our opinion about the new tune in our first ride review of the Jawa 42 2.1 here.
While Classic Legends has had a theme of producing special war-inspired Jawas, these new colours do look rather identical to its main rival: the Royal Enfield Classic 350. The Pegasus colours or even the Gunmetal Grey shade on the Classic have been around for a while. And there’s also the fact thatRoyal Enfields have had a long-standing link with the Armed Forces, as the official choice for service and despatch riders. So, let’s hope these Jawas make some in-roads into the RE territory.
