After a hiatus of over a year and a half, the Triumph Bonneville Bobber returns to India. It was not part of the initial lot of BS6 Bonnevilles that were on sale since January 2020 and for good reason -- it was getting additional goodies.
What’s The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
Triumph has increased the asking price of the Bonneville Bobber to a great extent. It now retails for Rs 11.75 lakh (ex-showroom India), which is the same as its pillion-friendly cruiser sibling, the Bonneville Speedmaster. While the Bobber has received some major updates in hardware and other practical aspects, this price hike of over a lakh and a half rupees over its BS4 model is quite absurd.
What’s New?
Firstly, the Bonnie Bobber is more practical now. It gets a larger 12-litre fuel tank, which is a big plus for those seeking solo touring pleasures. With the earlier offered puny 8-litre fuel tank, fuel stops were a regular occurrence.
Another major update comes in the form of a chunky 16-inch front wheel with a twin-disc brake setup. Triumph initially offered the same on the Bonneville Bobber Black and found that its customers preferred this setup over the standard’s skinny 19-inch front and single-disc one.
Small emission updates to the 1200cc High Torque parallel-twin motor have resulted in a minor drop in output: 78PS (1.5PS less) and 106Nm (1Nm less). For more details on the new Bonnie Bobber, check out this story.
ZigSays
The Triumph Bonneville Bobber remains a truly spectacular looking motorcycle but now with added versatility as well as a better safety package. Prices have gone up significantly, in what is a departure from Triumph’s tradition of pricing its motorcycles quite competitively. And we think that could be the biggest thorn in the Bobber’s cause now.
