Throughout this year, the Indian market has witnessed multiple exciting new launches, ranging from mass-market family cars to performance-oriented ones. However, what also stole the spotlight were the vehicles built to venture beyond the tarmac, sparking immense enthusiasm among off-road enthusiasts. Among them, the launch of the Mahindra Thar Roxx created a significant buzz, dominating conversations across the market.
Let’s dive into the list of these thrilling off-roaders that captured our attention and excitement in 2024:
Starting off the list is the Jeep Wrangler, which received a facelift earlier this year. Available in two variants: Unlimited and Rubicon, the updated model brings refreshed styling, a more premium cabin, a feature-rich package, and advanced off-road technology.
Inside, the 2024 Wrangler boasts a redesigned dashboard with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and sleeker central AC vents, alongside revamped HVAC controls. Key upgrades include a wireless phone charger, 12-way water-resistant powered front seats, a premium 9-speaker Alpine sound system, dual-zone climate control, and safety features such as ADAS, six airbags, a reverse parking camera, an off-road camera, and park assist.
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler is powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 270 PS and 400 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Jeep's full-time 4WD system. It features off-road enhancements like multiple modes, a low-range transfer case, locking differentials, and electronically disconnectable sway bars. New for 2024 is an antenna integrated in the new Gorilla glass windshield for added durability during off-road adventures.
Force Motors launched the much awaited 5-door Gurkha this year and also updated its existing 3-door model. The 5-door version came with added features, a more powerful engine and extra seats. However, they did not ignore the 3-door version, as that too got the feature updates and a higher tune for the engine.
The 5-door version of the Force Gurkha offers a longer wheelbase with a third row featuring captain seats, accessible via the boot. Key features include a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, roof-access ladder, updated 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual AC, and tilt-and-telescopic steering. Safety features include dual front airbags, rear parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
The updated Force Gurkha and its 5-door version, both feature a more powerful Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine producing 140 PS and 320 Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a shift-on-the-fly 4WD system. Off-road highlights include manual front and rear differential locks and a factory-fitted snorkel, enabling a water-wading depth of 700mm.
Everyone’s on the same page when we say that the most anticipated launch of this year has been the Mahindra Thar Roxx, the elongated 5-door sibling to the existing 3-door Thar.
