We reported just a couple of weeks ago that an official launch for the Kawasaki Z650 BS6 is right around the corner, and lo and behold, the day has arrived. Kawasaki has launched the updated naked streetfighter at Rs 5.94 lakh, making it Rs 25,000 more expensive than its BS4 predecessor. To save you the trouble of guess-timating the on-road price, we've got it for you right here: Rs 7.61 lakh. The lion's share of this is registration charges (Rs 1,40,000) along with another Rs 27,000 for insurance.

So what do you get for all that extra cash? Well, obviously the 649cc parallel-twin motor now burns cleaner and adheres to the stricter emission norms (while still retaining its power output), but there’s much more to the update. Most apparently, the bike has received a styling update and now features a rather sharp-looking LED headlight, giving the Z650 a more up-to-date appearance. And despite the more stringent BS6 requirements, the Z650 has only gained 1kg over its predecessor.
Kawasaki has also gone ahead and thrown in some extra features, most notable of which is the 4.3-inch fully-digital TFT colour display. It even gets Bluetooth connectivity so you can hook up your phone and manage music playback, phone calls, and maybe even turn-by-turn navigation.
The final update is in the form of fresh rubber. While the previous Z650 rolled on Dunlop Sportmax D214 tyres, the BS6 bike now gets grippier Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 rubber. So all in all, the Rs 25,000 price hike isn’t too bad at all, considering all the extra kit on offer. Next up, expect an official launch of the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 BS6 very soon.
