The upcoming Jawa 42 was recently spotted on the streets, and by the looks of it, there are a bunch of new additions made on the bike. First up is the set of alloy wheels that are likely to replace the spoked units on the ongoing Jawa 42 bikes. The addition of alloy wheels will bring in the convenience of having tubeless tyres, which is a boon during a puncture. This does make great sense on Indian roads. Even Royal Enfield had updated the ever-popular Classic 350 with the same a couple of years ago. By the way, RE has recently hiked the prices for the Classic 350 range. Here’s how much more you have to shell out.
That aside, the new Jawa 42 has skipped chrome from the front fork, exhaust, and its rear shocks. An added fly-screen and grab-rail also appear on the upcoming Jawa. It will be interesting to see whether the bike spotted is an additional variant or if the Jawa 42 would be available in this variant only.
We can’t figure out if the bike maker has made any mechanical change. The Jawa 42 packs a BS6 compliant, liquid-cooled 293cc single-cylinder motor that generates 26.51PS of power and 27.05Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. However, we feel that the Jawa Perak’s motor on the Jawa 42 would’ve made more sense. We had tested the new Perak, and you can check out its real-world performance here.
Suspension duties on the Jawa 42 are handled by a telescopic fork and twin gas-charged shocks at the rear. The bike is available in two variants -- Single disc and Dual disc. Single-channel ABS features across both. While the single disc variant is priced at Rs 1.64 lakh, the dual disc variant costs Rs 1.74 lakh. That said, we expect a slight price bump for the upcoming model, thanks to the addition of alloy wheels.
