Mercedes-Benz India has launched the 2021 GLA at an introductory price of Rs 42.10 lakh (ex-showroom). However, after July 1, 2021, the carmaker will hike the asking price by up to Rs 1.50 lakh.
The compact luxury SUV is available in four variants, including the locally assembled AMG GLA 35. Here is the detailed variant-wise price list:
Variants |
Ex-showroom Price |
GLA 200 Petrol |
Rs 42.10 lakh |
GLA 220d Diesel |
Rs 43.70 lakh |
GLA 220d 4MATIC Diesel |
Rs 46.70 lakh |
GLA 35 AMG 4MATIC |
Rs 57.30 lakh |
The new GLA is 1,611mm tall and 1,834mm wide, which is 104mm and 30mm more than the outgoing model. But, measuring 4,410mm in length, it is 14mm shorter than before. However, the new wheelbase, at 2,729mm, is longer by 30mm.
Thanks to the revised dimensions, the new GLA looks the part now. The outgoing model seemed more like a beefed-up hatchback.
The GLA’s exterior design is a throwback to the A-Class (it is from the same family, after all). The familiar Merc grille dominates the front, flanked by LED headlamps. The aggressively styled bumpers add to the sporty look. The side profile appears comparatively cleaner, with squared-out wheel arches and no sharp lines (or creases). At the rear, the SUV gets split LED tail lamps and a rugged-looking bumper.
Fun Fact: The AMG variant comes with sportier elements like the Panamericana grille, larger alloy wheels, and a lowered ride height.
Inside the GLA, the dash seems to have been lifted from the A-Class. The twin-screen setup -- comprising the MBUX infotainment system and digital instrument display -- takes centre stage. Also, the turbine-like AC vents look fantastic, especially at night with the ambient lighting switched on.
The entry-level SUV in 2021 features connected car tech, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, wireless phone charger, and the new Energizing seat kinetics -- Merc-speak for electric seat adjustment for optimum comfort -- for the driver. On selecting this programme, it’ll automatically keep making minor adjustments to the seating posture so you don’t feel fatigued during long drives.
Passenger safety is taken care of by seven airbags (standard), ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, an active bonnet for pedestrian safety, active brake assist, and attention assist.
Under the hood, the GLA comes with three engines depending on the variant you pick. Specifications of all three motors are as below:

Mercedes has nailed its aftersales services as well. The SUV comes with a standard eight-year warranty on the engine and transmission, which can be transferred to the next owner while selling the car. There are also predefined service packages, starting from Rs 61,200 for two years.
The 2021 GLA renews its rivalry with the BMW X1, Volvo XC40, and the upcoming Audi Q3. We’ll be testing the new SUV soon, so follow this space for all the updates.
