The Suzuki Hayabusa enjoys a cult status across the globe and it became an instant hit in India too ever since it featured in the Bollywood movie ‘Dhoom’. Naturally, after the revered Japanese brand revealed the third generation of the Peregrine Falcon, the country has been awaiting its arrival. Now, the bike is all set to debut this month.
After Suzuki India put up a teaser on its website and social media handles, dealers began accepting unofficial bookings of the Busa. Though the brand has not yet announced an official launch date, our sources reveal the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa will grace the Indian shores by the end of April. With several states announcing new COVID-19 restrictions, the brand is likely to opt for an online launch, rather than a grand affair.
But would an online event do justice to the new Busa? We don’t think so and Suzuki might just agree with us. Our sources say the brand is planning to organise a ‘Hayabusa Day’ to showcase the new bike. Though details are scarce at the moment, wouldn’t it be great to see Suzuki invite existing Hayabusa owners for a ride and to see the 2021 model in flesh? Now, that would be a befitting welcome for the new Busa.
So, with the launch happening this month, when do we get to see the bike on the road? Well, the fresh outbreak of the virus has definitely slowed down the entire process. The first lot of the bike, which is likely to be CBUs, could be delivered by May-end or early-June, as per our sources. However, the subsequent lots could be CKD units, and with the pandemic affecting the working capacity, deliveries are likely to be delayed.
We expect the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa to be priced around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) initially. If the brand manages to bring it as a CKD unit from the get-go, the price could be a tad lower. The Busa doesn’t have a direct rival, however, at this price, it will rival the BMW S 1000 RR and the Kawasaki Z H2.
