[UPDATE: Suzuki has launched the 2021 Hayabusa at a phenomal price point of Rs 16.40 lakh (ex-showroom India). Head here to know when it will reach your nearest Suzuki dealership.]
When a motorcycle as legendary as the Hayabusa is due for a comeback, it is hard for brands even as big as Suzuki to keep things under wraps. Barely a day after the image of the new ’Busa surfaced online, the promotional video of the bike has been leaked, giving us a fair idea of what to expect from the Falcon.
From the current-gen Yamaha YZF-R1 to the BMW S 1000 RR, in recent years, we have seen motorcycles drop their iconic elements and don new avatars. With the Suzuki Hayabusa, things were always different. The bike has been virtually the same for the past two decades, and even for 2021, Suzuki has managed to retain the same design DNA, albeit with a few changes.
Without losing on the bulbous form, the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa has been made a lot sharper now. The split headlight unit with the projector at the bottom has been retained, but it looks a lot meaner now. It’s flanked by LED DRLs besides the ram air intakes and are likely to double up as turn signals. The mirrors too are sleeker and appear more aero-friendly.

Move on to the side and you’ll notice a world of a difference. Everything, from the front fender to the rear seat cowl has been redesigned. The long, flowy curves of the older model have made way for more well-defined and straight lines. The fairing now sports a floating design with ‘gills’. However, it’s unclear whether this is to channel the wind better or if the integrated winglet element is to create downforce like the new Kawasaki ZX-10R and Aprilia RSV4. The belly pan is also shorter now, ending before the footpegs, while the older model’s panel extended all the way till the swingarm.
Complementing the new design are the sleek exhaust units, that despite looking fairly chunky, blend well with the rest of design. As for the tail, the Hayabusa now features a split LED tail lamp, which is likely to have integrated indicators.

Aesthetics aside, the teaser has revealed quite a lot of interesting information too. For starters, the bike gets a quickshifter (finally!) and a plethora of IMU-assisted rider aids. From wheelie control and traction control to riding modes and even lean angle display, all these can be accessed via a new TFT display housed between the massive cockpit of the Busa. Thankfully, Suzuki has retained the old-school dials, instead of going for a huge screen. After all, seeing that needle blitz all the way to 300kmph (though not advisable) is a different rush altogether.
To comply with the new emission norms, Suzuki may have plonked a bigger engine to compensate for the loss of performance or even used forced injection as the grapevine suggests. A power output in excess of 200PS shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa is all set to be officially unveiled on February 5 via Suzuki Global Salon, the brand’s new online platform for launch events moving forward. As for the Busa’s India debut, it is likely to grace our shores in the second half of 2021 at a possible price of above Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), unless Suzuki opts to bring it via the CKD route, like the older model.
