Audi just launched its swankiest SUV in India for a price of Rs 1.33 crore (ex-showroom). Audi’s flagship in the country is powered by 3.0-litre TFSI engine, which makes 340PS of power and 500Nm of torque. The appeal of the Q8 lies in its looks. Audi’s previous top-of-the-line SUV looked like a jacked-up estate car. The Q8 instead features a coupe-like roofline. Feast your eyes on the most advanced Audi SUV in India:
First, this SUV looks more squat than the Q7 full sizer. It is 30mm shorter in height and 62mm shorter in length, but 32mm wider than the Q7. The wheel arches have a subtle flare, and look at that rear bulge over the fenders!
The front is occupied by a massive grille that seems like it could swallow small animals while driving around town. Large air vents in the bumper and that silver grille give the Q8 a modern touch. Let’s take a closer look.
The grille gives this car a more true-to-concept appearance. Audi hasn’t gone overboard with the chrome on this crossover.
The headlamp cluster resembles that of other Audis with their DRLs and dual projectors. Fog lights are hidden underneath the DRLs for a cleaner look.
A single variant, the 55 TFSI, will be offered in India. The S-Line Exterior package adds trim on the outside. If you’re looking for better performance, opt for the S-Line Sports Package, which adds sports air suspension, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and sports seats.
The rear features a sloping roofline. A thin crease on the tailgate adds character. The thin wide black grille is just for looks, but the twin exhaust exits are real.
Tail lamps feature a brilliant array of shapes and textures. The long LED strip and tailgate-mounted LEDs are for the brake lights.
Inside, you get a modern dashboard, which wraps around you like a digital blanket. There are three screens: a digital driver’s display, an infotainment touchscreen, and another to control air conditioning.
The Q8 features a quad-zone climate control system and a Bang and Olufsen sound system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are business as usual.
Audi will offer a potpourri of customisations for your Q8. Unusual for Audi are 54 colour options. Pick from one of 11 different interior trim choices, nine types of wood, and multiple wheel designs.
If the stance looks amiss to you, know that these are 20-inch rims. That’s how large the Q8’s wheels are. You can choose from several 21-inch rims to spruce up your ride.
You might think Mercedes S-Class when someone says ‘luxury’ but Audi’s definition is beyond quietness and soft suspension. The Q8 is a tech package more likely to be bought by movie stars than business tycoons.
