Celebrating 25 years of the TDI engine, Audi will soon release a new version of the Audi RS5 with a diesel engine. The standard Audi RS5 comes with a 4.2-litre V8 twin turbo petrol engine, which will be replaced in favour for the 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine.
The 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine makes 385PS of peak torque and 750Nm of peak torque as is synced with a twin-clutch 8-speed automatic gearbox. As with all RS-spec Audis, power is sent to all four wheels through Audi’s Quattro system. Audi claims that the RS5 TDI will go from 0-100kmph in 4-seconds on to a top speed of 280kmph. The engine feature a twin turbo setup with a separate low-pressure and high-pressure turbo connected to a charge air intercooler. There is also a bypass valve to help build boost at lower revs. The RS5 TDI will also be equipped with a sport differential and an active exhaust system with an electronically controlled butterfly valve to change exhaust note.
Comparatively, the standard production RS5 comes with 450PS of peak power and 430Nm of peak torque enabling the RS5 to go from 0-100kmph in 4.6-seconds on to an electronically controlled top-speed of 250kmph. This will also be the first time Audi has ever plonked a diesel engine in a RS spec car. In the recent past, the BMW M550d xDrive too featured a similar recipe with a triple turbo setup making 383PS and 740Nm of torque.
