Bajaj has officially launched the Pulsar 220F BS6 along with the smaller Pulsar 180F BS6. It now retails for Rs 1,17,296 (ex-showroom, Delhi). That’s a premium of Rs 8,960 over its BS4 predecessor. The Pulsar 220F BS6 had started arriving at dealerships a few weeks ago, with deliveries already underway in some cities.
The biggest change is in the powertrain department. The first-gen Pulsar 220F was introduced with fuel-injection which was later replaced with a carburettor to save costs. However, Bajaj has switched back to fuel-injection to meet the tighter BS6 emission norms. The 220cc air and oil-cooled motor now delivers 20.4PS at 8500rpm and 18.55Nm at 7000rpm. Compared to the BS4 version, that’s a drop of 0.53PS though the torque output remains the same. It continues to use a 5-speed gearbox. Due to the addition of fuel-injection and a catalytic convertor, the Pulsar 220F BS6 now weighs 5kg more than the BS4 motorcycle, which could affect performance further.
Other than the updated powertrain, the Pulsar 220F BS6 remains cosmetically and mechanically unchanged. It continues to use the same projector headlamp setup, LED tail lamp and semi-digital instrument console. The underpinnings remain unchanged as well. It continues to use telescopic forks and dual gas-charged shock absorbers. Braking is via a 280mm front and 230mm rear disc brake with single-channel ABS as standard fitment.
Other than the Pulsars, Bajaj has also launched the Avenger 220 BS6 and Avenger 160 BS6.
