BMW has introduced the M Sport tag to the 3 Series Gran Turismo lineup. Surprisingly, it still wears the 330i prefix, which was already there in the Luxury Line trim. Now, the 3 Series GT is available in a total of three variants - two petrol options, both the 330i, and one diesel, the 320d. The new M Sport gets no mechanical updates and just wears some sporty accessories both inside and out. Also, it is now available in the Estoril Blue colour as well. The 330i Gran Turismo M Sport is being locally assembled at BMW's Chennai facility.
Prices (ex-showroom)
Let's talk about the engine first. The M Sport gets the same 2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol which makes 252PS of peak power and a maximum torque of 350Nm. Mated to this motor is the eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The car accelerates from 0-100kmph in 6.1 seconds, same as the Luxury Line and claims to return a mileage of 15.34kmpl. So why the M Sport tag you ask?
Because, on the outside, it now gets the M aerodynamic package, 18-inch M star spoke alloy wheels, M badging on the side panels at the front, gloss black kidney grille and M badge door sill plates. Now, inside, it gets the option for M Sport upholstery, sport seats for driver and passenger, BMW headliner in Anthracite and, the most important - multifunction M leather steering wheel and the heads-up display. Another neat addition is the M strip on the key.
It gets an 8.7-inch infotainment display which runs software like BMW ConnectedDrive, BMW iDrive, BMW Navigation system Professional with touch functionality 3D maps, BMW Apps, Park Distance Control (PDC) and connectivity through Bluetooth and USB/AUX IN.
In terms of safety, it gets six airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with brake assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Side-impact Protection, ISOFIX child seat mounts, Run-flat tyres with reinforced sidewalls, emergency spare wheel, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor.
So, as you can see, the M Sport just makes the car appear sporty. But, if you are looking to indeed buy a 3 Series GT, the M Sport for Rs 80,000 more will make for a handsome looking car.
