Kawasaki has revealed the Ninja 300 BS6, slated for a launch in the first week of March. The sub-400cc sports tourer from Japan has been Kawasaki’s highest selling model in the country for a few years now. That’s precisely the reason why Kawasaki India still managed to create a BS6 version of the bike, despite it not being available globally anymore. We expect this localised Ninja to be priced at Rs 3.20 lakh (ex-showroom), around Rs 20,000 dearer than the BS4 model.
We’ve had to wait quite some time for the BS6 Ninja 300 to arrive. Back in 2019, we were the first to break the news that Kawasaki India was working on BS6 solutions for the Ninja 300. The proposed arrival was sometime around mid-2020, but those plans had to be put on the back burner. Thanks, COVID-19!
Earlier this month, there were signs of a possible launch of the Ninja 300, with certain Kawasaki dealers even accepting unofficial bookings for the same. It was likely to get LED headlights and a colour TFT dash from the Ninja 650. However, the new images that Kawasaki has put out on social media don’t show these bits. The only surface update clearly seen is the new KRT livery, also present on the 2021 Ninja 650 (head here to read more on the fantastic mid-displacement Kwacker).
The 296cc parallel-twin engine will get some new internal bits and a revised exhaust system to meet BS6 norms. We hope Kawasaki has managed to keep the engine output (39PS/27Nm) intact. It may be less powerful than the KTM RC 390, but will have the edge over the Austrian supersport out on the highway.
We are only a few days from the launch of the Ninja 300 BS6. However, there isn’t any clarity yet on the other teased bike. Will it be the Ninja’s ADV sibling, the Versys-X 300? Or the WSBK-veteran Ninja ZX-10R? Stick around to find out.
