Kawasaki India gave its customers a wonderful Christmas present by launching the new Z900 in India. The 2020 Kawasaki Z900 has been priced between Rs 8.50 lakh and Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the older Kawasaki Z900 retailed for Rs 7.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). That’s quite a significant bump in pricing, but Kawasaki has added a plethora of new features to justify the pricing.

First up is the new suite of electronic aids. For the first time, the Kawasaki Z900 has been equipped with electronic goodies such as four riding modes (Sport, Road, Rain and Manual),three-level traction control system and two power modes. On the cosmetic front, the new Kawasaki Z900 does look similar to the older bike, but it gets an LED headlight and a 10.9cm TFT instrument cluster. It also features smartphone connectivity via the Kawasaki Rideology App. The new Kawasaki offering is available in two shades of Metallic Graphite Gray/Metallic Spark Black and Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black.

On the mechanical front, the big news is that the new engine is BS6-compliant. Despite meeting the stringent emission norms, there has been no drop in power output and the 948cc, in-line-four motor churns out 125PS at 9500rpm and 98.6Nm at 7700rpm Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch.

Underpinnings of the new bike remain unchanged and it features the same frame, suspension and braking hardware as seen on the older bike. However, the 2020 model gets new Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres, which we hope to offer better grip in wet conditions as the older tyres struggled for traction on wet tarmac.

The 2020 Kawasaki Z900 competes against the Suzuki GSX-S750, Triumph Street Triple S and the KTM 790 Duke.
