Owning a larger capacity Royal Enfield is something most RE owners aspire to as performance isn’t really a forte of their motorcycles. Good news for potential RE buyers is that Royal Enfield is working on a twin-cylinder bike which has been spotted on many occasions. The new Royal Enfield motorcycle looks set for a global launch in the coming months. But before the official Royal Enfield twin-cylinder bike makes its debut, Australia-based custom RE bike builder, Carberry Motorcycles, has unveiled details about a new 1000 cc V-Twin Royal Enfield engine. The new V-Twin motor is being dubbed as the first “made-in-India” 1,000cc twin-cylinder motor. The engine has been built by mating two 500cc Royal Enfield engines together and power figures for the engine stand at 52.5PS and 82Nm of peak torque. At present, the most powerful engine in Royal Enfield’s portfolio is the 535cc, single-cylinder engine that powers the Continental GT and develops 29.5PS and 44Nm of torque. Also, the upcoming Royal Enfield twin-cylinder motorcycle is expected to have a 700cc displacement parallel-twin motor unlike this V-Twin engine. Also ReadBajaj-Triumph Partnership: What To Expect?

Carberry Motorcycles currently has a manufacturing unit in Bhilai, Chattisgarh but it will soon move operations to Pune, Maharashtra where the twin-cylinder engine will be built. The new Carberry V-Twin engine carries a sticker price of Rs 4.96 lakh without handling and other charges. The engine will be exported to global markets also, but the pricing and warranty details will be slightly different. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox and according to Carberry, the engine has been tuned to offer a linear power delivery with lesser vibrations; something which Royal Enfield engines are criticised for. The engine houses a seven-plate clutch with a strengthened primary chain, hydraulic lifters and a heavy crankshaft. The exhaust system, however, won’t be offered with the motor because the design depends on the frame being used and can’t just be bolted on to any existing Royal Enfield frame.

Delivery time for the engine is between four to seven months and customers will have to pay 50 per cent of the amount upfront. We must add though, that the new V-Twin engine hasn’t been given a clearance by ARAI which means it isn’t road legal yet and can only be used for display. Carberry Motorcycles though have added that they are working to make the motors road legal and completely built bikes, with the V-Twin motor, will be made available later this year. The new Carberry V-Twin engine could be a good option for custom bike builders who want the retro charm of an old-school motor while being relatively easier to work on too.
