The Superleggera V4 is supposed to be lighter and more powerful than the homologation-special V4 R
  • The Superleggera V4 was spotted testing earlier this year.
  • Several components were made from carbon fibre.
  • Global debut expected by mid-2020.
  • After tasting success with the 1299 Superleggera, it was but obvious that Ducati would go about making one based on the Panigale V4. A test mule was spotted in early-October 2019, which gave us a clear indication of the bike’s arrival for the forthcoming model year. Now, there is a new registration document citing its arrival. And, there are two numbers you should be excited about.

Firstly, the horsepower figure -- 224PS at 15,250rpm! That is 3.7PS more than the homologation special Panigale V4 R. The Superleggera V4 is expected to carry forward the same smaller displacement engine from the V4 R and not the 1103cc unit from the V4 or the V4 S. The Superleggera is also claimed to be running a new lightweight titanium exhaust.

So how light is the Superleggera V4 going to be? The document states that the bike weighs 173kg in its type-approved, lowest ready-to-ride state. This might be a bit confusing as the figure neither corresponds to the dry weight of the bike nor to the kerb weight. The Panigale V4 R had a type-approved weight of 184kg, which makes the Superleggera V4 11kg lighter.

Both of the above factors should contribute to making the Superleggera V4 an even more mental motorcycle than what the Panigale V4 R already is. The question is whether your pockets are deep enough to purchase the bike?
