Yes, you read that right! The BMW 5 Series has become affordable by Rs 5 lakh thanks to the new entry-level 530i Sport variant, which retails for Rs 55.40 lakh. It is currently the most affordable variant in the lineup, undercutting the diesel 520d (Rs 59.30 lakh). What's even more interesting is that the 530i shares its BS6-compliant 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with the 530i M Sport. It’s good enough for a solid 252PS and 350Nm of twist.
Here’s the complete 5 Series lineup along with the prices:
Variant | Ex-Showroom Price |
530i Sport | Rs 55.40 lakh |
520d Luxury | Rs 59.30 lakh |
530i M Sport | Rs 60.90 lakh |
530d M Sport | Rs 66.80 lakh |
The new entry-level variant is locally assembled at BMW’s India plant in Chennai. As mentioned, under the hood is the same BS6-compliant 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the 530i M Sport. This engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and features the same driving modes: Comfort, Sport, ECO PRO, and Sport+. If numbers are your thing, the 530i Sport can hit the 100kmph-mark in 6.1 seconds, similar to the M Sport variant.
Cosmetic changes include a different front and rear bumper design with chrome and gloss black elements. It also features smaller 17-inch wheels as opposed to the 18-inchers from the M Sport. The Sport package’s cabin gets seats finished in sensatec leather complemented by gloss black inserts and Pearl Chrome accents.
Although it’s an entry-level variant, the 530i Sport comes amply loaded with features like adaptive LED headlights, BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3 inch fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, BMW iDrive with 10.25-inch touchscreen, 12-speaker sound system, park distance control, and parking assist. In addition, it gets the exact same safety kit as the top-spec 530i M Sport!
That said, some general features are missing. This includes 360-degree camera, wireless charging, sport seat for driver and passenger, Harman Kardon 16-speaker sound system, comfort access keyless system, dynamic damper control, Dakota leather upholstery and two colour options: Carbon Black and Alpine White.
BMW has priced the new entry-level variant competitively although it gets the bigger engine with all the safety kit and necessary features. It rivals the Mercedes-Benz E-Class as well as the recently launched Audi A6.
