It’s surprising that BMW India has launched the facelifted 6 Series first and not the 5 Series. But the carmaker is trying to prove a point here. The facelifted 6, with its long wheelbase, is the more obvious rival to the updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Considering the latter is super successful, BMW now wants to grab a slice of its pie.
The new 6 Series is priced from Rs 67.90 lakh onwards and continues to come in two variants. Here are the prices:

The 620D GT Luxury Line has gotten dearer by Rs 2.40 lakh, while the 630D GT M Sport is now Rs 90,000 more expensive than before. Also, the earlier base price (of the 630i GT Luxury Line) was Rs 65.90 lakh. However, it has been discontinued since, and now the entry price (of the 630i GT M Sport) is Rs 67.90 lakh, Rs 2 lakh more than before. The petrol engine is limited to the top-spec variant, unlike before.
All online bookings for the 6 Series throughout April 2021 will be eligible for benefits worth up to Rs 1.50 lakh.
The 6 Series GT is fundamentally an extended-wheelbase version based on the 5 Series’ platform. Its wheelbase is 95mm longer than that of the 5 Series, which should result in increased legroom. Here’s a quick comparison of its dimensions with the donor car:

The facelifted 6 Series’ styling is now in tune with BMW’s latest design language. It sports a larger kidney grille, which thankfully isn’t as big as the one in the 7 Series. A pair of sleeker adaptive LED headlamps lends the front a more menacing look. Then there’s the bumper, which comes in different designs depending on the variant.
Except for the new alloy wheels, the side profile looks similar, which is not bad, of course. The redesigned tail lamps top off the design updates at the back.
The top-spec M Sport variants come with sportier detailing on the bumper, M-Sport alloy wheels, and side skirts.
The interior is a familiar place as the basic dashboard layout remains unchanged but now pack fresh trim and upholstery options. The new and larger 12.3-inch i-Drive infotainment system (which finally supports Android Auto) and the updated digital driver’s display give it a real sense of occasion. The cabin is as plush as before, thanks to top-notch fit and finish levels.
Now, to the goodies. The 6 Series GT features ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, electrically adjustable sunblinds for rear occupants, power-adjustable front seats, and rear-seat entertainment package with twin screens. Passenger safety is taken care of by ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, parking assistance system, and electronic stability control. Handling suspension duties is an air suspension system instead of the coil springs seen in the 5 Series.
There’s no change under the hood. The 6 Series GT continues with the 258PS 2.0-litre petrol, 190PS 2.0-litre diesel, and 265PS 3.0-litre diesel engine options. All three motors drive the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Here are the specifications:

The 6 Series GTs will rival the recently launched facelifted E-Class. In fact, the Bimmer could be a better alternative to the latter for owners who might want to take the wheel occasionally.
