Trust Audi to take everyday cars and turn them into racetrack-ripping monsters. Say hello to the all-new RS 5 that's on display at the Geneva Motor Show, alongside its endurance-racing DTM cousin. There's a whole lot to talk about the new super coupe, so let's dive right into it.

The core element of every RS model from Audi has always been some ludicrous performance numbers. Here's food for thought – the RS 5 debuts an all-new 2.9-litre, bi-turbo motor that develops 450PS of power and 600Nm of torque! That's the same amount of torque as the bonkers Lamborghini Huracan Performante. In an Audi saloon? WHAT!

All the power is harnessed by an eight-speed transmission that sends power to all four wheels. And there's some more numbers for you to go ga-ga over. 0-100kmph takes just 3.9 seconds, and top speed is rated at an eye-watering 280kmph. Also, if you aren't being a kid with the throttle, Audi claims it will return 11.5kmpl. Again, WHAT!

The design is typical of Audi RS cars, which means it is anything but subtle and sedate. It gets the usual RS treatment that includes an aggressive set of bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels (the 20-inchers you see in the pictures are optional) and a wider, flatter honeycomb grille. Other RS 5-specific elements include the Quattro 'blister' on the front fender, the big oval exhausts and the tinted bezel for the 'Matrix' LED headlamps.

Audi says the interior of the RS 5 is "extremely upscale and sportily appointed". Goodies include the super comfy and supportive RS sport seats (finished in Nappa leather, no less) and the trademark flat-bottomed steering wheel. To remind you of what you're driving, it features RS logos on the seats, steering wheel, door sill trims, as well as the selector lever. It gets the Audi virtual cockpit tech as well, that gets "special RS displays" which reads out tyre pressure, torque and g-forces. There's a shift light as well, to make sure you upshift at the redline. Buyers can also tick an 'RS design package' on the options list that adds some red accents to the steering wheel, selector lever and knee pads, and adds red seat belts as well.

Audi's mad-hatter saloon should be on the cards for India as well. When? Possibly by the end of this year. How much? Around the same money as a BMW M4 – Rs 1.40 crore.

Bonus: Here's how the RS 5 test mule looked!
