UPDATE: The Honda CB300R has been launched in the country at Rs 2.41 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). Here's the launch story.
Honda has confirmed that the new CB300R will make its India debut on February 8. The Japanese bikemaker surprised Indian bikers last week when it announced its intention to the launch of the new streetbike in our two-wheeler space. Honda has also stated that the CB300R will be priced under Rs 2.5 lakh in India and if we had to make a guess, we expect it to be priced between Rs 2.3 lakh to 2.45 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the new motorcycle has already commenced across all Honda Wing World dealerships. When launched, it will compete against the KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R and the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 (with respect to pricing).
One of the main appeal of the CB300R is its retro-modern styling and it’s part of Honda’s ‘Neo Sports Café’ portfolio. In general, the new motorcycle looks like the scaled-down version of the Honda CB1000R. In terms of features, the bike gets an all-digital instrument console, LED headlamp, turn indicators and tail lamp.
Propelling the bike is a 286cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that pumps out 30.9PS of power at 5500rpm and 27Nm of torque at 7500rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission and Honda claims a fuel economy figure of 30.2kmpl. The tubular steel frame rests on 41mm USD forks at the front and a preload adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is provided by a 296mm front disc with a four-piston caliper and a 220mm disc and a single-piston caliper at the rear. The Honda CB300R will be the lowest capacity motorcycle from the Japanese two-wheeler giant to be assembled in India.
