Honda RC213V-S: A Rs 1.35 crore track bike for the road

Honda has launched the ultra exclusive RC213V-S at Catalunya, Spain. The Honda RC213V-S is the road going version of the MotoGP machine piloted by reigning champion Marc Marquez

So after almost 10 years of development which saw the entire engine and frame being revised Honda finally unveiled the production-spec RC213V-S in Spain. The Honda RC213V-S was launched by reigning MotoGP champion at the Catalunya circuit where the next round of the premiere class racing will be held this weekend. It was fitting that Marquez unveiled the Honda RC213V-S as the bike is almost the road-spec version of the Honda RC213V MotoGP machine. 

While it was rumoured that the Honda RC213V-S would pump out crazy amount of power it turned out to be a dud. According to the official spec sheet released by Honda the 999cc, V4 motor would produce 160PS @ 11,000rpm while the Honda CBR1000RR which is almost a decade old produces 178PS. But all is not lost as a race kit will be offered as an optional extra which bumps the power output to 215PS and 118Nm of peak torque. The Honda engine features titanium connecting rods and sand-cast aluminium crankcase. Similar to the MotoGP machine, the fuel tank is located under the seat to maintain good centre of gravity enclosed by the carbon fibre body panels. Components lifted directly from the MotoGP machine on the Honda RC213V-S includes swingarm, magnesium Marchesini sourced wheels, pressurised Ohlins forks, adjustable footrests and foot controls, slipper clutch and Brembo disc brakes that employ steel rotors instead of carbon ones.

The Honda RC213V-S tips the scale at 190kg (wet weight) which isn’t light while the optional race kit shaves a further 23kg but still it’s on the heavier side as the Ducati  1199 Superleggera weighs178kg (wet weight).

Talking about electronics, there are five rider modes, a sophisticated traction control system, along with engine braking control, a quickshifter, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). According to Honda each of the RC213V-S will be hand built at its Kumamoto factory and one unit of the motorcycle will be manufactured every day. Production of the bike will be limited to maintain exclusivity and it is rumoured to be fewer than 200 units. Prospective clients will have to book the bike on www.RC213V-S.com, with deliveries expected by late 2015. The Honda RC213V-S will be offered in two shades - the HRC Tricolor or bare carbon fibre. Talking about price, the Honda RC213V-S will be available for Rs 1.35 crore in Germany while in Australia it has been priced at Rs 1.20 crore. The prices mentioned are without the optional racing kit.
