At the launch of the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports, the Japanese brand surprised us by hinting that it will bring its entire 500cc lineup by the end of 2020. Among them is the Rebel 500. But before that, Honda is likely to bring its 300cc lineup, including the Rebel 300. The first thing most of us enthusiasts might wonder is how it would be priced. So, here’s our analysis:
Consider Honda CB300R’s delta:
Let’s look at the US market as it offers both the Honda CB300R and the Rebel 300. The reason why we are taking the CB300R into consideration is that it shares its engine with the Rebel 300. Here’s the price table:
US-spec (MSRP) |
India-spec (ex-showroom India) |
Result |
|
Honda CB300R |
USD 4,949 (around Rs 3,71,598) |
Rs 2,41,989 |
The US-spec bike costs 1.53 times more than the India-spec model. |
In the US market, the Honda Rebel 300 will set you back by USD 4,499, which is around Rs 3,37,809. On applying the same delta to the Rebel 300, it comes to around Rs 2,20,790. That said, the level of localisation might vary compared to the CB300R. Taking that into consideration, the Honda Rebel 300 could be priced around Rs 2.30 lakh to Rs 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
If Honda does manage to bring the Rebel 300 before the Rebel 500, it will be the first cruiser from the Japanese brand in India. It is also likely to be the only true-blue cruiser at the aforementioned price point. If you want a potent highway-worthy machine that costs a little more, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 will be the ideal choice.
The Honda Rebel 300 is powered by a 286cc single-cylinder motor, which produces 30.4PS at 8000rpm and 27.4 Nm at 6500rpm. It works alongside a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. Underpinnings include 41mm telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. The bike features a disc on both ends with dual-channel ABS (available as an optional variant in the US). However, Honda will offer the bike with a standard dual-channel ABS in India to comply with the safety rules.
