Jaguar’s first ever SUV, the F-Pace, has secured a five-star safety rating in the safety tests conducted by Euro NCAP. This makes the F-Pace the second SUV in Jaguar’s lineup to receive a five-star rating, after the E-Pace which received it a few weeks back. Here is a look at the detailed scores that the F-Pace received.
The test reports released by NCAP said that the passenger compartment of the F-Pace remained stable in the frontal offset test. Protection of the knees and legs was good for both dummies and a similar level of protection is provided to occupants of different sizes and those sitting in different positions. In the full width rigid barrier test, protection of the chest of the rear passenger was rated insufficient, based on dummy readings of rib compression. Otherwise, protection of the driver and rear passenger was said to be good.
It further specified that in the frontal offset test, protection of the 6-year and 10-year old dummies was also good, except for the neck of the 10-year old dummy, which was said to be insufficient. In the side barrier impact, protection was good for all critical body areas of both dummies.
Commenting on pedestrian safety, the report revealed that the protection provided to the head of a struck pedestrian was mostly good over most of the bonnet surface, with some poor and weak results seen on the windscreen pillars. Front bumper is also said to provide good protection to pedestrians' legs while protection of the pelvis areas had mixed opinions, with good and poor results.
These scores are a result of the F-Pace’s strong aluminium architecture and the combination of active and passive safety features that are offered on the flagship SUV. Safety features offered on the F-pace include six airbags, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward traffic detection, adaptive cruise control with queue assist, lane keep assist, traffic monitoring system, driver condition monitoring system and blind spot assist.
The F-Pace was launched in India last year and was imported as a CBU until recently, when Jaguar began its assembly in India. The F-Pace is available in a single Prestige variant only and is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged I4 engine which generates 179PS of power and 430Nm of torque. The power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Prices for the locally assembled F-Pace start at Rs 60.02 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
