Jeep Compass Bookings - 1000 In Three Days

Jeep is yet to announce the price tag for the Compass, but that hasn't stopped potential buyers from putting a deposit of Rs 50,000 on the SUV before its official launch. The bookings opened last week, and the number has already touched the four-digit mark. The booking amount is fully refundable, so not all of the bookings are going to convert into sales, but the fact that buyers are willing to put the money down so soon speaks volumes about Jeep's desirability factor in India.

Jeep is the go-to name for SUVs, and the Compass will soon be the most affordable Jeep you can buy. The current India lineup includes the Wrangler Unlimited and the Grand Cherokee. Both of these are out of reach for most buyers, but they've helped the brand establish a luxury image in our eyes. That makes the Compass look like value in comparison even if priced over the estimated price tag of Rs 18-24 lakh.

On the feature front, it isn’t as well equipped as the Hyundai Tucson and the Volkswagen Tiguan, but none of those two SUVs wears a luxury badge on its nose.

The Jeep Compass will come in three main trims: Sport, Longitude and Limited, along with option (O) trims for the top two. The Compass will come with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The petrol motor makes 164PS of power and has 250Nm of torque while the diesel produces 173PS of power and 350Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual will be available with both engines, but the 7-speed automatic will be exclusive to the petrol motor only. The diesel variant is slated to get a 9-speed automatic in 2018.
