Of course we expected Jeep to give a befitting reply to the just unveiled Bronco but even then, this is pretty out there...

  • Wrangler features a 6.4-litre V8 that develops 450PS and 610Nm.
  • Noteworthy off-road features include electronic front and rear differentials, a two-speed transfer case and off-road tyres.
  • Gets a host of exterior and interior customisation to differentiate itself from the standard model.

The recently unveiled Ford Bronco has been receiving all the limelight and attention from the paparazzi. And this has made the Jeep Wrangler quite cross. In a bid to attack the Bronco head on, the folks at Jeep have given the Wrangler a brute variant. Say hello to the Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept.

In true Uncle Sam tradition, bigger is better, and it doesn't get any bigger than the Wrangler Rubicon 392 concept’s monstrous 6.4 litre V8 motor. Developing 450PS and 610Nm of sheer force, this being an offroader, power is transferred to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In comparison, the Bronco’s 2.7-litre turbo-petrol unit puts out 310PS and 542Nm, 140PS and 68Nm lower than the Wrangler.

Jeeps can go anywhere and we’ll talk about it in a bit. But what about on-road performance? Well, this one scorches the road with its sheer amount of power. Naught to 100kmph is dispatched in under five seconds, which is sportscar territory.  There are also two sound modes to alter the exhaust note as per your wish. Sweet.

Naturally, this Wrangler is ‘Trail Rated,’ and that means it’s an off-road-focussed machine. It’s equipped to take on the apocalypse with electronic front and rear differentials as well as a two-speed transfer case. It also comes with a steel bumper, large 37-inch off-road alloy wheels and a 2-inch lift kit from Mopar.

While the last three upgrades help it look the part, it also enhances its off-road capabilities. It sits a cool 336mm (over 40mm compared to Bronco) above the ground and boasts an approach angle of 51.6 degrees, a breakover angle of 29.5 degrees and departure angle of 40.1 degrees. Perfect machine for rock climbing.

Last but not least, let’s talk about design. Elements like the wheels, springs and tow hooks are finished in gold while the hood is beefed up with an air scoop to feed fresh air to the brute V8 motor. One can drive sane with all the side and roof panels on or remove all of them for some air. Then there’s the unique red upholstery which gets gold stitching as well as an upgraded “performance” steering wheel.

We hope this Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept goes into production to satisfy those enthusiasts looking for a Jeep with go-anywhere capability as well as scorching performance. And if it does, it’ll lock horns with the Ford Bronco, which doesn’t feature a V8 powertrain, giving a major advantage for the Jeep.
