Kawasaki India ended 2017 on a high note as it launched the new Vulcan S for Rs 5.44 lakh (ex-showroom). Pricing of the new Kawasaki cruiser bike is really aggressive as the Harley-Davidson Street 750 which is built in India retails for Rs 5.17 lakh (ex-showroom).The Kawasaki Vulcan S is the first cruiser motorcycle from the Japanese two-wheeler giant for the Indian market. Bookings for the new cruiser motorcycle have started across all Kawasaki dealerships in India. The Kawasaki Vulcan S will be assembled in India at its Chakan plant and will be available in only one colour option - flat ebony (black).
The Kawasaki Vulcan S is based on the old ER-6n which has been replaced by the new Kawasaki Z650 in India. In terms of styling, the new bike adopts a traditional cruiser styling with large fuel tank, leather saddle seats, petite headlamp and stubby mudguards. However, the blacked out elements, alloy wheels and offset monoshock give it a more modern look. It sports a semi-digital console with a large analogue tachometer taking centre stage.
Powering the new motorcycle is a 650cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor which pushes out 61PS at 7500rpm and 62.78 Nm of peak torque which is made available at 6600rpm. A 6-speed gearbox takes care of transmission duties. The chassis is a diamond type frame which is suspended on telescopic front forks and 7-way adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is done via disc brakes on both ends and ABS comes as standard. It weighs 226kg (kerb weight), while fuel tank capacity stands at 14 litres.
Speaking about the new motorcycle, Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director of India Kawasaki Motor, said ”After our sports bikes, tourer bikes, naked bikes & off road bikes settled in India, we felt it was a right time for us to bring this cruiser in the market. There cannot be a better way to start a new year 2018 by introduction of our world-wide known Vulcan brand. It is different than any other cruiser mainly because of its powerful, yet easy-to-control engine, easy manoeuvring, light weight yet stable, highway riding and important to mention 14 litre fuel tank with good fuel economy.”
