When KTM made its debut in India almost a decade ago, it stole hearts not just with its naked motorcycles but also for being a great value-for-money proposition. The story is different now, though. Once touted to be the most affordable premium brand in India, the recent price hike has tossed the whole value-for-money idea out of the window. Here’s how the Duke range has been priced at the onset of the new financial year:
Model |
New Price |
Old Price |
Price Difference |
125 Duke |
Rs 1,60,319 |
Rs 1,50,507 |
Rs 8,812 |
200 Duke |
Rs 1,83,328 |
Rs 1,81,536 |
Rs 1,792 |
250 Duke |
Rs 2,21,632 |
Rs 2,17,402 |
Rs 4,230 |
390 Duke |
Rs 2,75,925 |
Rs 2,70,554 |
Rs 5,371 |
While the hike on the 200 Duke is marginal, the decision to bump up the price of the 125 Duke by a massive Rs 8,812 is likely to put off potential buyers. In contrast, the Yamaha MT-15, despite a bigger engine and better performance, costs a whopping Rs 20,000 less than the baby Duke. Though the 125 Duke was once the best-seller for the Austrian brand, the new model hasn’t been contributing much to the sales figures, and the price hike isn’t going to help its case.
It is a similar story with the 390 Duke. The bike got its third price revision within the last six months, pushing up the cost by almost Rs 18,000 since December 2020! On the other hand, its arch-nemesis, the BMW G 310 R, manages to undercut the Austrian by a staggering Rs 25,925. Despite their prices having gone up, none of the bikes have received any mechanical update. That said, the RC 200 will soon receive an overhaul. So, stay tuned!
