Last year, KTM launched its entry-level motorcycle, the 125 Duke at an introductory price of Rs 1.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). And if you thought that was a bit steep for a 125cc motorcycle, you won’t like the latest development. KTM has hiked the price of the 125 Duke by Rs 6,835, taking its asking price to Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Even though it bears an expensive price tag, the KTM 125 Duke features top-spec underpinnings to justify the cost. Its 124.7cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor churns out 14.5PS and 12Nm, mated to a 6-speed transmission. The 125 Duke features a trellis frame paired with upside down forks and a monoshock at the rear. Braking setup on the KTM 125 Duke consists of a 300mm disc brake up front and a 240mm disc brake at the rear, aided by a standard single-channel ABS.
The baby Duke is one of the best selling KTMs in India. In fact, the Austrian bikemaker has already sold more than 7,287 units of the 125 Duke, which is quite impressive for a Rs 1 lakh+ 125cc motorcycle. The sales figures indicate that it has been received well by Indian audiences, probably because of its manageable performance which makes it a good stepping stone for newer riders.
The KTM 125 Duke rivals the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, the Pulsar 200NS and the newly launched Yamaha MT-15. We have ridden the KTM 125 Duke and here’s what we think about it.
