KTM 390 Adventure 5 Things To Know

After a long wait, KTM has finally unveiled the 390 Adventure. And guess what? The wait was worth it. KTM’s baby adventure bike might be low on weight but looks as capable as its larger offroad cousins whichever way you look at it. Now that we have a clearer picture of the bike, here are five things you didn’t know about the KTM 390 Adventure

Gets proper off-road credentials:

For one, the 390 Adventure has an SUV-rivalling ground clearance of 200mm and a tall seat height of 855mm. It has generous 170mm front and 177mm rear suspension travel. It gets a more relaxed rake for more stability. You sit upright courtesy of raised handlebar and have a lot of space to move around on the seat that partially extends over the fuel tank. The dual-channel ABS unit too gets an off-road mode and can be completely disengaged for proper off-road fun. It gets dual-purpose Continental TKC tyres.

Some things could have been better though. The 14.5-litre fuel tank is slightly larger than the 390 Duke’s fuel tank. However, we would have loved a larger one for better range.  We would also have liked a larger tyre setup with spoke wheels instead of the 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel setup. That said, KTM could offer spoke wheels from its larger models as an option.

We knew that the 390 Adventure would share its motor with the 390 Dukes and expected it to be revised for better low down performance. However, this Euro 5/BS6  compliant motor makes the same 44PS and 37Nm as the 390 Duke. Even the final gearing remains the same. Given the extra components on board, the 390 Adventure weighs 9kg more. So, it’s quite natural to expect a slightly duller performance as compared to the naked streetfighter.

Gets traction control:

That’s an update we were not expecting to see on the 390 Adventure given cost implications. However, the ADV gets a basic traction control setup that could come in hand while off the beaten path.

Gets adjustable suspension:

Another highlight is the long travel adjustable WP Apex suspension setup. The 43mm USD front fork is adjustable for compression and rebound while the rear monoshock is adjustable for preload and rebound. This degree of adjustability should allow you to fine-tune your suspension setup for different types of terrain and adds to the 390 Adventure’s overall versatility.

Expected to come to India in December 2019:

The 390 Adventure might come to India sooner than you expect. It is expected to make its India debut in December, possibly at India Bike Week, and most likely go on sale by early 2020. In true KTM, expect the 390 Adventure to undercut rivals like the BMW G 310 GS and Kawasaki Versys-X 300. We expect a price tag of Rs 3.2 lakh (ex-showroom).
