The orange invasion of EICMA 2019 has finally begun, with KTM unveiling an 890 Duke R and 390 Adventure in Milan. The new bike is based on the 790 Duke but powered by an 890cc parallel-twin motor. The 790 isn’t exactly gasping for more power but the 890 is going to be more powerful still. Output now stands at a very healthy 121PS and 99Nm, which is a whole 16PS and 12Nm more than the 790 Duke.
The cycle parts have also been massively uprated, and the 890 Duke R comes equipped with fully-adjustable WP Apex suspension at both ends. Braking hardware is also top notch, with Brembo Stylema calipers on offer. These are the brand's flagship street calipers and first debuted on the Ducati Panigale V4. They are a far cry from the 790's J Juan calipers. And while the 790 Duke has to make do with Maxxis Sport Touring tyres, the 890 has been shown with stickier Michelin rubber. It’s not just performance parts, ergonomics have been tweaked to offer a more aggressive riding experience as well.
In terms of styling, the 890's design remains unchanged, except for new graphics and colour schemes. The frame tubes and wheels are finished in orange on the 890 and this gives it a more loud and shouty appearance.
The 890cc engine should be Euro 5-compliant and so we can expect this model to make its way to India sometime towards the end of next year. The higher-spec components could mean a price tag of around Rs 9.5 lakh - 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and the 890 Duke R will be even closer in terms of performance to the new Triumph Street Triple RS.
