When it comes to supercars, there’s only a select few brands that can match up to the aura and legacy of Lamborghini. And the Italian supercar maker has added yet another achingly beautiful, stunningly fast and incredibly well packaged product to its India line-up in the form of the Huracan Spyder. The Spyder has just been launched at Rs 3.89 crore, ex-showroom, New Delhi.

Lamborghini also took the opportunity to inaugurate its new dealership in Mumbai, which boasts state of the art facilities and exudes the opulent feel that its customers look for. The Huracan Spyder is the convertible version of Lamborghini’s most successful supersports machine yet, the Huracan, and is identical to the coupe mechanically. It is powered by the same naturally aspirated, 5.2-litre V10 motor that produces a heady 610PS of power and 560Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a slick-shifting 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

The convertible is ‘just’ 110kg heavier than the coupe at 1,542kg, thanks to the additional reinforcements made to the car. Lamborghini also claims it has retained over 90 percent of the coupe’s structural rigidity on the Spyder, to ensure driving pleasure doesn’t take a hit. Despite the additional weight the Spyder will sprint to 100kmph from standstill in a mere 3.4 seconds claims Lamborghini, going on to register a top speed of 324kmph. And according the manufacturer, you could even hit the speed with the top down.

The cabin has in fact been engineered to ensure wind buffeting and noise inside the cabin are low enough for you to hold a conversation with your passenger on the go, even at speeds north of 100kmph. The soft top can be retracted at the push of a button placed between the seats, either when the car is stationary, or at speeds up to 50kmph.

The insides of the Huracan Spyder are swathed in high quality materials like leather, Alcantara and carbon fibre. The interior is identical to the coupe with a sportily designed cockpit, flat-bottomed steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara and large paddle shifters mounted onto the steering column. The Spyder is also high on safety, and gets a pair of retractable rollover bars behind the seats that will pop in just a few milliseconds in the event of a mishap.

It gets the same Strada, Sport and Corsa modes as the Huracan coupe which alter engine performance, steering feel and suspension stiffness depending on the mode. Lamborghini says the Huracan Spyder has helped it create a new niche in the supersport category. The Spyder is thus being categorised as the lifestyle version of the Huracan, as opposed to the coupe being the performance oriented version and the rear wheel drive LP 580-2 being the fun to drive version.  The Huracan Spyder is now available Lamborghini’s three dealerships in the country, located in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.
