Jaguar is known for outrageous launches. The F-Pace's India debut was no different
Jaguar F-Pace Launch

Trust Jaguar to pull something astounding off. Its first SUV made a mega debut at the Wilson College Gymkhana in Mumbai. How we wish you could witness it live, but here's a gist of what happened.

The British automaker roped in ace sculptor Arzan Khambatta who was given the task of making an 18-metre tall beacon, with a ramp at the base. After a spectacular show of lights on the wall of the beacon, India's most celebrated Formula 1 driver, Narain Karthikeyan drove the F-Pace up the steep ramp. Then, one of India's finest singers, Shankar Mahadevan belted out some fine numbers, including one specifically made for the Jaguar F-Pace.

Here's a quick round up of the car itself. The F-Pace is based on Jaguar's new aluminium-intensive architecture, that helps it keep the weight low. Engine options include a 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel (that we've seen on the new Jaguar XF) and a 3.0-litre V6 as well. The four-cylinder motor is good for 180PS, whereas the latter pumps out an impressive 300PS of power.

Being a top-shelf Jag, there are plenty of goodies on offer as well. For instance, the top-spec version gets a sunroof, leather upholstery, a crisp 10.2-inch display for the infotainment and a powered/gesture tailgate as well. And then, there's the way it looks. It sits pretty, in line with modern day Jaguars, incorporating the family grille and the adaptive LED headlamps with the 'J-Blade' daytime running lamps. We like the clean creases and the muscular stance too; it is definitely one of Ian Callum's best (after the F-Type, of course).

Prices start at Rs 68.4 lakh, and go all the way up to Rs 1.12 Crore. Both motors can be had with two variants each - Pure and Prestige for the 2.0-litre engine, and R Sport and Edition One for the 3.0.
