Mahindra and Mahindra, India's leading utility vehicle manufacturer stepped into the sphere of urban SUV's with the Mahindra Bolero back in the year 2000. The independent front suspension was a first for Mahindra and the Jeep Cherokee front end went down well with the Indian customer, both urban and rural.

The Bolero continued on its growth path and has been refreshed over the years, taking on new engines as well as receiving a minor facelift in March 2007, when the all new Bolero rolled out. Incidentally the Bolero continues to be the number one selling UV in the country for 3 years in a row. That is no small feat, as this machine has proved its reliability and ruggedness time and time again.

To commemorate the staggering performance of this vehicle, Mahindra, today, unveiled the special edition Bolero for the Indian customer. The company will manufacture only 1000 units of this model, of which the first one was presented to Robin Uthappa- so in effect you have only 999 left!

Key highlights that set the new Bolero apart is the treatment to an all new exterior trim colors-Jawa Brown and Mist Silver. These exclusive paint jobs are further accentuated by some classy body graphics to help ensure that the limited edition stands out of a crowd. The only design change to the exterior of the Bolero happens to be at the rear. The spare wheel cover is an all new design that also bears the special edition insignia.

The interiors have been spruced up considerably from the routine looking Bolero, with the special edition vehicle receiving nice beige coloured European leather upholstery with black piping. The seats themselves look a lot more comfortable and I must add that they definitely have that style element totally ingrained. Apart from that the Special Edition also comes with "Bolero" branded scuff plates at each door entrance. The instrument cluster and dash retain the same shape albeit for getting a bit of wood grain finish for the center console. To complete the ambience of luxury in this model, Mahindra has fitted the special edition with a great sound system that is capable of playing CD, MP3, as well as a USB port.

The changes as pointed out are majorly cosmetic. The Bolero continues to retain its 2523cc, 63BHP turbocharged DI motor that produces a healthy 18kgm of torque as low as 1500-1800rpm. It has always been a rugged vehicle and has proved its mettle on Indian backroads time and time again. Priced at Rs. 5.98 lakhs ex-showroom, Delhi, this is one brute that is now walking tall in a tuxedo!
