Pininfarina Continues To Fine Tune Its Battista Electric Hypercar

Nissan India has launched the Magnite sub-4 metre SUV at an introductory price of Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom). Nissan wasn’t really kidding when it said it’d surprise us with the Magnite’s pricing which undercuts all its rivals. In fact, it’s pretty close to premium hatchback territory. So in this report, we have compared the detailed variant-wise prices of the Magnite against its rivals.
Note: Since the Magnite is a petrol-only offering, we have compared it with only the petrol variants of other sub-4 metre SUVs.

The Nissan Magnite’s entry-level variant undercuts almost all its rivals by a significant margin. In fact, it’s Rs 1.72 lakh cheaper than the base-spec Sonet, Rs 1.76 lakh more affordable than the entry-level Venue, and a full Rs 2.35 lakh than the Vitara Brezza LXI.
The aggressive pricing is no doubt helped by the 72PS 1.0-litre petrol engine which is the least powerful here.
The Urban Cruiser’s base variant is the most expensive here as it’s better equipped than most of its rivals.
The Magnite’s turbo-petrol variants are also the most affordable in the segment. Its entry-level variant is Rs 900 more affordable than the Tata Nexon, which features a 120PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as standard.
Even the Magnite’s top-end turbo-petrol manual variants undercut almost all its rivals by a significant margin.
One can opt for connected car tech in the Magnite’s XV Premium (O) variant, which is Rs 10,000 dearer than the XV Premium.
The Sonet GTX+ is the most expensive petrol-manual sub-4 metre SUV as it utilises Hyundai’s latest iMT tech. The turbo-petrol engine in the Sonet isn’t offered with a proper manual gearbox, unlike the Venue, which gets a 6-speed unit.
The Magnite’s dual-tone variants are also the most affordable in the segment thanks to its disruptive pricing. That said, it’s limited to only the top two XV Premium and XV Premium (O) variants.

The Magnite CVT is the most affordable automatic sub-4m SUV one can buy in the country today.
Its entry-level variant undercuts the Nexon, its nearest rival, by Rs 56,000. The Nexon also utilises an AMT while the Magnite comes with a more superior CVT.
The Kia Sonet’s GTX+ automatic is the most expensive in the segment, but it tries to justify it with premium features.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser come with an old-school 4-speed torque converter automatic.
Mahindra doesn’t offer an AMT for the petrol variants of the XUV300.
The EcoSport, with its 122PS 1.5-litre engine and 6-speed torque converter automatic, is the most powerful SUV in this test.
Points To Note
The Magnite can be opted with a Tech Pack which includes a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, JBL sound system, air purifier, and puddle lamps. This pack, priced at Rs 38,698, is offered from the XV variant onwards.
The connected car tech on the Magnite can only be had with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in the top-spec XV Premium (O) variant.
The Magnite’s 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine develops 72PS and 96Nm while the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine puts out 100PS and 160Nm. It comes with a 5-speed manual as standard, however, the CVT is limited to the turbo-petrol unit.
The Magnite has all the right ingredients to turn around Nissan’s fortunes in the country. However, its Achilles heel is the sub-par dealer network, which Nissan is currently revamping in the country. That being said, if you want an affordable compact SUV which gets all the basics right, the Magnite could be the perfect fit for you.
